Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

I am a big fan of Hoka. I had two pair of the Stinson Trail (previous model) and was excited to see that new Stinson ATR ran a bit wider. Much more comfortable. THe downside is the new model leaved my feet and toes FILTHY. The older model I have done 2x 50mile trail races, and a TON of 20+ training days. My feet felt great and were super clean.

WIth the new model, my training runs leave my feet and toes completely dirty. I can feel the dust get in the shoe upper and irritate my toes. People commented on how smooth and soft my feet were after all the running I did in the Stinson Trails... but now with the Stinson ATR, that is no longer the case. A great shoe aside from this.

The pic attached is after a standard 20mi trail run on my usual route in the ATRs. This never was the case in the older Stinson Trail model.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

This is my first pair of Hokas. I have a hard to fit foot (wide toes, narrow midfoot) and these fit pretty well. They'd probably be too narrow for a lot of other folks. I'm just trying to break these in (or rather, break myself in) to these since they've got a 6mm drop and my other shoes are all normal, 10mm drop.

The cushion feels great right off the bat, and now that I'm up in the 60 miles per week range, I am hoping this will help me avoid the beat up legs feeling. Unfortunately, I can already tell that the completely unpadded tongue is going to be an issue. In order to get the shoes nice and snug for trail use, you need to pull them tight enough that the laces are digging into the top of my foot. I may just cut the tongue out of an old pair of running shoes and stick it under the speed laces to alleviate this problem.

The other option, I suppose, is to replace the speed laces with the regular laces provided, but I'm not sure how much better a slightly fatter lace will feel absent any tongue padding. Also, there's no easy way to undo the speed laces. You need to cut them, which seems a pretty crude choice to force on purchasers of a $160 shoe.

These are definitely heavy shoes. My size 13s with Sole footbeds tip the scales at 17 ounces, more than 2.5 ounces heavier than any other shoe/insole combo I've got. That won't matter if the extra cushioning keeps the legs as fresh as others indicate it will. For me, I've yet to find out.

I'm a bit worried about the construction of the uppers. I've had other trail shoes (Asics)that included a supposedly resilient webbing over the actual shoe mesh, and these were shredded very quickly after a few rock scrapes. The Hokas may be up high enough to avoid that, or the mesh may be stronger, but only time will tell. The approach that Sportiva and Brooks take with their trail shoes makes more sense to me: a very durable coated/microfiber panel in places where abrasions are likely, along the side of the front.

I'm 200lbs - they make me feel like a runner especially on any decline! Not quite the feel on sandy ups, but only 20 miles in them so far. Definitely need to cinch them down then they defy any rocky trail. I aim for those "toe grabbing" rocks and they just
        glide right over them!

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

This is my second pair of ATRs. The first pair had a minor defect, so I had the pair replaced. I also increased a half size at that time due to some sore spots (minor blister issues) on my feet that I typically don't have with other trail shoes. The blisters were in two 100 miles race that I ran last summer, but they were not a major problem. I had no blister issues in my first 50K in the new ATR's a couple of weeks ago (and I wore the new shoes fresh out of the box with no break in for the race). The real test will be how they do in my first 100 miler in the new shoes, but that probably won't happen for several months.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

I just wanted to write a follow up review since I have been running in the Stinson ATRs since June. They are amazing, I understand maximalist is not for everyone, but if you have knee problems or other joint issues that are exacerbated by the impact from running, try these shoes! They have saved my running. The cushion combined with the meta rocker really make for a smooth stride and reduce harsh impact that can keep someone with joint pain from running. I ordered an extra pair of these I like them so much, I may order some more to stock up just in case Hoka decides to change these for some reason. Message to Hoka: dont change this shoe, it is perfect!

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

With narrow feet, I use both inserts (included) and snug the laces well with the Stinson. Stinson is great for less technical trails. With the max cushioning, I'm actually able to occasionally run on roads for the first time in years. For more technical trails with frequent rocks/roots, I go with the Rapa Nui.

I have been getting calf strains with my other minimalist running shoes. I bought these Stinsons recently and ran 7 and 8 miles on mixed terrain (roads and rocky trails), and my calf strain has just melted away. I am impressed. They feel so cushioned and stable. I am sold and will buy another pair of Hokas to alternate with these Stinsons.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

I have had foot problems for over 10 years. I quit running a few years ago because of plantar fasciitis. I even had surgery on both my feet last year and it did not work. My feet still hurt. Every time I ran just a mile or 2 my feet would hurt and I would be limping around for days. These shoes are so comfortable I have started to run again. My first run with them was 3 miles. My feet felt fine. I only stopped running because my legs have not run in so long my muscles were getting real sore. My feet however felt fine. I have only been back a week but my feet feel so good with these shoes on. I am so happy to be running again! I wish these things were around 20 years ago. I don't think I would have ever had foot problems had I ran in these. For those of you that think they look funny please listen to me. Take care of your feet now so you don't have problems later on. Get these shoes and don't worry about how you look worry about what you may be doing to your body.

I got these two weeks before my first 100 mile race. They are a bit more narrow than the Mafate 3 and not as big of a toe box either. These shoes seemed to dry fast as the tongue has no cushioning in it, which was a plus. I switched back and forth between the Mafate 3 and the Stinson ATRs during the race and they both worked really well. I am convinced the cushioning in the Hoka's allowed me to finish the race. Great shoe. It is tough to run in my old normal shoes.

Despite size of sole, not that mushy and babies the feet in tough rocky terrain. Some risk of sprain with such a high shoe in big rocks and off trail.

Can impact forefoot or heel as desired. Could allow one to do more miles than other shoes.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

Love this shoe! The new upper is just the improvement the Stinson Trail needed. Having a wide foot it is almost impossible to find a good trail shoe. Even though the Hoka doesn't come in wide sizes the Stnson ASR is roomy enough to make a very comfortable ride. In my job I'm on my feet all day so I even have some to work in. My legs feel great at the end of a long work day. Would love to see Hoka come out with a wide option in all their models (won't hold my breath) but until then the Stinson ASR is the shoe for me!!

Amazing! I finally hit the jackpot with Hoka. I loved the conquest but the sole wore to quickly, I like the durability of the Mafate 3 but the upper was too much and cut off the circulation in my foot. Got my Stinson ATRs in and they are the perfect balance of cushion and durability, they address all of my concerns with the other Hokas. The upper is great, full rubber outsole, light weight for the segment. I'll be ordering another pair for a back up.

Did a 7 mile test run in them for my first outing and amazed! I didn't intentionally step on rocks, but I didn't avoid either. I didn't even notice them, these shoes provide great protection and are light enough not to wear you down. Post run, honestly late in the afternoon I didn't even fell like I had run 7 miles. My normal shoes are ASICS and these were simply superior. Jury is still out on durability.

Initially, they felt very cushiony, and I was very impressed. I ran with them for about six months, and about 400 miles, and now I am buying my second pair. The soles showed rapid wear at first, then the wear slowed down and stabilized. I wore right through the outside corners of both heels, and most of the tread lugs are gone. The other problem I had was with a toe rub on my second toe that I dont get with my other running shoes. I am looking forward to many more miles on my new pair of Hokas, and plan to stay with this shoe in the future.

I have been doing well in minimalist trail shoes but I had to try these based on the raves I've read. Two runs in and I'm surprised. They are super cushioned but somehow don't feel bulky. Traction is great. Running over small rocks is somewhat painful in my other shoes, but with these - it's just a breeze. True test will come on a longer run but so far so good. They are heavier - that's the only thing you need to get used to.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Stinson ATR Trail Running Shoe:

I have loved the Stinson Trail and looked forward to getting this updated version. The the new ATR is lighter and has a nicer upper and more open toe box than the Stinson, but keeps the great sole, padding, and rocker profile. But there is one big flaw with the new tongue design: in the old version the tongue was well padded and at the point where the laces cross under the slot in tongue the laces never touched the top of the foot. In the new, gusseted tongue, there is much less padding and the slot in the tongue where the laces cross has no protection underneath at all so the laces rub directly on the top of the foot. This can be avoided by cutting out the speed laces and using regular laces without the tongue slot (because the new tongue is gusseted it should remain pretty secure). But if you like the speed laces (I do), then the new tongue design is bad. I hope Hoka fixes this--it would be easy to do and would prevent chafing that makes an otherwise great shoe uncomfortable.

I wore these shoes for my Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim trail run and all of the training for 6 months prior and they were incredible. Extremely comfortable and lightweight despite there size. On the inside my feet felt like they were on a memory foam mattress but somehow there's also incredible support so I barely felt any rocks or rough edges on my trail runs. I recommend them to everyone!
