Kept my eye on and asked a lot of questions about these shoes for quite some time before buying. I wasted precious time because these are wonderful shoes to run in and walk in. The longer distances have become more fun because I have better energy and my knees don't ache anymore. Will definitely buy another pair.

This is my 5th purchase of the Hoka Clifton since the summer. I fell in love after my first run in them and snatched up several pairs before they changed the style or something... Great straight out of the box but they are not durable wearing out very quickly. I am already on my third pair! None the less, they are a good alternate between my asics nimbus and nike's. I am a distance runner - about 80 miles/wk.

Obviously, Hoka's are comfortable, but they are great from the very first step. Super lightweight even though they look chunky. Seemed like I had less leg fatigue. Love them!

These shoes work best for runners who like to roll forward and toe off. I run faster and more efficiently with a midfoot strike, heel drop sort of style. I liked these when I rolled forward, but this technique caused me low back pain. I actually love the look of these-nice color (orange), simple but cool graphics, make my ankles look skinny (: If you don't have foot issues these fit neutral and comfortably, I have issues with my L foot and even with various insoles these did not work for me. Many people will love these, I am gong back to my Newtons and Topos.

Feet: long, med width, long toes. Not much 'padding'.
Other info: I'm five foot six, 126 pounds. Upper mid-foot strike. Prefer to run in racing/training sneaks for roads, treadmill.

Prior to 2011, ran in the Nike Free a lot. After pregnancy, lost volume (not having much to begin with!) in the foot. Now needed a tad more support/cushioning.

Since 2012: I use the Kinvara for 5K-5mile distance/track workouts; Adidas Boston or Adidas Tempo for all the rest. Can no longer wear any of the Adidas. Even tried the Supernova Glide 6 but the position of the stripes put pressure on a bone spur I have (near posterior tibial tendon). I got foot fatigue for runs over 14 miles in the Adidas. Time for a replacement!

I decided to try the Hoka's after some running friends of mine were raving about them.
I was still a bit skeptical. However, the Hoka Clifton has surprised me. It feels a bit roomy when I first put on, but has not been an issue. It is one of the few shoes that do not bother my bone spur. Nor do I get sore toenails either. I always felt I needed a racing shoe for shorter distance training/racing on the roads, but found I can run all my runs in this shoe, including 5K racing (not on a track though). No more foot fatigue on the longer runs.

So yes, I have now become a convert and just ordered two more pairs!

Hopefully this review helps and I provided enough detail.

                    Note:
I am not sure how this shoe will be for running in the winter time on roads (when yak traks not necessary but may encounter unexpected slippery conditions), so cannot comment on this.

They have improved the life of the soles over the Bondi 2, but they still wear down too fast. Other than that, there's not a shoe out there that is as shock-absorbing and feather light!

This is presented as a basic light model and the price reflects that. There are no extra lace holes at the top of the shoe but still a nice fit. This is the lightest shoe I've ever worn but no negative effects so far. Probably wouldn't use them for a long run but work nicely for speed work.

Even though the Cliftons are marketed as a road shoe, I mostly use mine on the trails. I absolutely LOVE this shoe. I've tried Hokas before (Bondi) and they did not work for me, the Cliftons are amazing. I have had PF for over a year now, and while I am not sure the shoes are specifically helping it to improve, they definitely are making it less painful to run. And it has been improving since I've switched to these exclusively. (I am also doing other things like stretches, night splits, etc.) These shoes are incredibly light. While they do not have a rock plate for trail running, the amount of cushioning means that I have not had any issues with feeling rocks, even on my most technical, rocky trails. My foot stays securely in place in these, even when the trail footing is uneven. They breathe really well, which is nice for hot temps. They do let in more small grit than my previous trail shoes (I think through the tongue area) even when I am wearing gaiters, but I am working on a solution to that. (Attaching my gaiter closer to the toe, so the tongue area is fully covered.) The pros *far* outweigh cons. I am on my second pair and planning to order a 3rd pair soon. (Ultra runner, so I put 100s of miles on shoes in just a few weeks.) Hoka is planning to come out with a trail version of this shoe in March 2015, so that may address some of the trail-specific cons. I should add that the wear I am seeing is on the softer sections of the shoe sole as this road shoe has only a partial high-abrasion outsole. That said, there is SO much sole material, I am not sure it will be an issue any sooner than my typical replacement schedule (~400 miles) for shoes. The high abrasion section appears to wear at a normal rate.

Well after two years of searching I have finally found a shoe that I can run in with my Morton's Neuroma. I needed a shoe that helped my plantar faciitis also, but that was managable with orthotics and taping. Finding a shoe that helps Morton Neuroma was near impossible. I have literally tried at least 15 pairs of shoes in hopes of finding something that would enable me to keep running. EUREKA!!! These shoes are a wonder. Upon putting them on my feet thanked me and my neuroma was quieted. I can now run 8 or 9 miles a day without pain. I hope everyone that suffers from this will read this and order these shoes as they are truly a lifesaver. The wonderful other pluses are that they are comfortable all the way around, take no break in period and are light as a feather. I think people might think they look orthopedic in a way, but they don't and I have never had a comment on them except that people love them...just not as much as I do!!!!! Thanks Hoka

I love the fit and feel of these shoes. This is the first pair of Hokas that I have been able to run in; the conquest was just too stiff, felt like I was running with bricks on my feet. The Clifton is super comfortable adn light. However, I noticed that the tread on the bottom is wearing VERY quickly. The bottoms of the shoes do not have the rubber tread all over; there is a lot of it that is the soft white foam material. I was running on a shoulder of a road and there was some dirt and grit and I slipped and fell. So, almost no traction on the bottom. I am going to try the Stinson ATR and cross my fingers.

I'm very happy with my Clifton -- so lightweight and cushiony. I typically wear a size 5.5, but the 6 fit fairly well. I like showing off my unique shoe at work because no one knows of this brand. I am an occupational therapist so I'm on my feet almost all day and my feet don't feel as tired as with my other shoes.

Running short and long distances - these shoes are great.. Only downside is that my arches hurt after each run. I have normal arches so I think it's the inserts in the shoes. This is my second pair of Hoka's and I didn't have issues with my first pair.

Has lots of cushion and they are very light. Just wish the shoe was a little bit wider, otherwise I love this shoe. Would buy it again.

I have the Hoka Stinson ATR and I love them. The Clifton is just as good, but much lighter and feels like a little less cushion up front, but still a great shoe with comfort and cushion. My first day out I did 7.5 miles and felt great with my new Clifton's.

I am so happy with the Hoka clifton, I originally bought size 10, and ran in them for a while, they felt a little too big, went down to the 9 1/2 and they are perfect!!!! I have problems with bunions, and they have material that gives, so they dont hurt at all even after a long run. I am training for the NYC marathon, and I am so happy I tried these shoes. I was originally a brooks ghost fan, now when I put them on, they feel so flat and uncomfortable!!!!

Love my wave phopehcy II but toe gets pinched. The Hoka offers plenty of toe room. The cushion is amazing and absorbs impact of running downhill. My legs feel great!! There is surprisingly a lot of stability with all that cushion! Love this shoe! Recommend for any runner or walker. You will love the smooth, propelled, cushioned ride!

OK, I will start off by saying that, before this particular shoe came out, I *hated Hokas*. I mean abhorred them. I had tried on every model preceding this one and felt like I had bricks tied to my feet. I mean, I usally wear several pairs of shoes in rotation, which are the Saucony Triumph, Brooks Glycerin 10, Altra Paradigm, Scott AF 2.0 Trainer, and Altra Olympus -- for injury prevention (these shoes all weigh around 9oz, except the Scott AF Trainer which is 7.5oz). Up until this point I liked my Altra Paradigms for recovery runs. Hokas, in my opinion were probably used by the mob to drown enemies in the East River.

However, when I heard about the Clifton, with its 6.5oz weight, I just had to give them a chance... and boy am I glad I did. So I bought a pair of these yesterday. I had to go 1/2 size down from my usual running shoe size. I wear 8.5 in Brooks, Asics, Saucony; size 9 in Altras. In the Clifton, I went with a size 8. In previous Hoka models, I had to size 1/2 size up. It seems the redesign/overhaul of this model changed the fit significantly, but just know that it runs a bit big. No big deal. I also had to lace them using the same method I lace my Altras to tighten the ankle (but I have really skinny ankles so that probably will not be an issue for most people). The biggest difference aside from the weight is the way the toe off feels in the Clifton compared to the previous Hoka models. The redesign of the rocker bottom made the toe off much faster and more effortless. Gone is the brick-like clompy feeling of Hokas past. There appears to be more cusion in the midfoot area and much less weight in the heel -- a welcome change for me, since I am a forefoot/midfoot striker.

Today, in a rather brash and, probably unwise move, I decided to take them for a test run today .... a 10-mile test run (I am currently training for a marathon and I have a 60-mile/week plan I have to adhere to!). At first, I had to adjust my gait to get used to the heavier padding in the midfoot area, due to the new rocker bottom design, but that was easy to get used to. Well, let's just say, by mile 3, I literally forgot I was even wearing shoes, much less a brand spanking new pair of shoes (whose predecessors were totally underwhelming to put it mildly). My feet kept wanting to go faster and I was able to maintain a high cadence of 95-97spm (per foot -- so 190-194 for both feet) and actually had to reign myself in a bit because this was supposed to be a run at "easy" pace.

I don't know if I need to say more, because, in my opinion, the best thing a shoe can accomplish is to convince you that you are not even wearing it, and these achieve that goal effortlessly. I flew through that 10-miler like it was a 5K and at the end, my legs and knees felt like I had just finished a leisurely stroll in the park. Nuff said.

Altra's Paradigm better watch out because, there is a new sheriff in town, and his name is Clifton! I am considering making these my race day shoes.... we shall see!

I am so thankful I tried this shoe!! After running many years in Nike's, Saucony's and Asics' I had become disappointed in their lack of cushioning and durability. So far, the Clifton has provided much sought after cushioning and relief. I am anxious to see how long they hold up. I am a high mileage runner - 60 - 80/wk.

After hearing all the hype on Hoka I was excited to see the Clifton come out since it was so lightweight. I hate heavy shoes. They felt weird when I put them on but a good kind of weird! My first run in them was 4 miles. I felt like I was springing off the ground with every step. My time was faster than normal and it just felt like my legs wanted to move faster. The shoes are very comfortable and were an exact fit to my shoe size. I am hooked!

I am so happy I tried this shoe! I was wearing Mizuno for cushioning mainly, but the Hoka 11 tops it hands down. From the moment I slipped it on I thought FINALLY! A shoe that gives support, breathability, and looks! I love that the tongue is very thin and won't slip or rub the top of my foot.
