Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I've been an avid runner since 1984. More marathons than I can count, many ultras, triathlons, etc. My point is I've tried a hundred shoes and seen the fads (can you spell "minimalist")come and go. But the Hokas are completely different.
For the first time in 30 years I came back from a 20 mile training run, exhausted, but was shocked to find my legs were almost FRESH! No soreness. No limited range of motion. No compulsion to stretch them out. After a nap I could have gone dancing. That's never happened before. After you get used to them, running in Hokas is more like pedalling a bike. A nice even cycling motion rather than bang, bang, bang on the ground.
Word of warning: You have to run more than the "out the store and down the sidewalk" trial. Took me at least two runs to get comfortable because they feel sooooo odd to run in. Until you learn to relax you almost run in an careful, guarded way.
Only complaint is the tongue. Had to cut the weird end down so it didn't wear a hole in me (after it wore a hole in me). Come-on HOKA ... buy a pair of Zoots and see how they do it.
Regardless, I'll NEVER go back to "regular" shoes again!

I've been a Brooks fan for the past few years (Mostly Ghost and others). I usually run form 30-40 miles a week. Big frame 250 pound / 6 feet. After lots of reading I decided to give the Hoka One One a try and all I can say is WAO!!!! Most comfortable shoe I have tried in quite some time. Been using these for few weeks and feel great. Looking forward for this year NYC 26.2!! Highly recommended

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I am an avid Bondi fan and nearly didn't buy the Bondi 3s due to all the negative reviews about lack of cushion and so on. To me, the cushion feels the same as the Bondi 2s. The basic design and sizing is nearly identical. The Bondi 3s come with the quick laces (or whatever they call them) which I detest, but they include regular laces too. The tongue is paper thin compared to the old padded design, but I haven't found any issues, pain, rubbing, etc. from them. If you are a Bondi 2 fan, I see no reason not to continue on with the Bondi 3s.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I have been running for over 30 years, and despite all the injuries, still love it. But my last marathon was over 5 years ago and for the last 18 months I haven't run at all due to patellar tendinosis. Couldn't get past 1/2 mile without searing pain. Yesterday, I saw an ad for HOKAs in a running magazine and went to my local RRS store and picked up a pair, having tried everything else to no avail. My first run this morning was 2 miles and miraculously pain free. Pain free. Wow...if the HOKAs come through in the long run, I will be a fan for life. The HOKAs take some getting used to. I have always run in Stability shoes due to some pronation, and the HOKAs are anything but Stability. I don't like walking in them. And, as many have said, the tongue and speed lacing aren't great. But standard laces are provided and I will try them for my 2nd run...fingers and toes crossed that it goes as well as this morning's amazing, epiphany-like experience.

Really good for my feet with inserts. Best I have found for plantar fasciitis.

However, the tread wear is rapid and not durable, at least that is the case with my stride.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

With just 43 miles on these so far, it's hard to really know if they will reduce wear and tear on my legs/feet yet. Here's what's clear so far:

              - As other folks have said, the tongue is terrible. Couple that with the wire thin laces (since changed out) and they can be painful. Once I switched out the laces it is better, but they need a more substantial tongue in future releases.

              - My feet heat up far more than the Ghost 5/6s I've been running in for years now. Whatever material is being used is nowhere as breathable.

              - Despite their size, when running they feel very light.

              - The toe box is very wide. The upper material has to bunch up to get these to the correct tightness.

              - They feel very good and comfortable to run in. Most of my runs so far have been in the 5-8 mile range.

Started running in Hoka's after a severely broken foot. The cushioning and stability have kept me going. The new model doesn't seem to be cut as low around the ankle collar. I get a terrible rub on the fibula. Had to cut and remove a part of the collar to eliminate the problem. I have the same issue with the Rapa Nui 2 Tarmac.

I purchased the product for my 30+ mile trail runs. Overall it is an excellent shoe for the protection and "endurance" of my feet. I have been running brooks pure flow and love the light, low and stable aspects of the pure flow. The biggest problem I have had is the ankle instability when running trails. Since the Hoka sits up higher it has a tendency to roll laterally and I have had several minor ankle tweeks which I have never experienced with other shoes. Also the upper is a little sloppy feeling. Replaced the laces with the traditional and it has been a little better. Overall the shoe is a revolutionary product which allows me to run long with much less foot pain, I am sure Hoka will improve on the product in the next couple of years

The Hoka redesign flopped. Read somewhere about problems with the lacing system being so narrow that when you tighten the shoes, they can't be tightend all the way. This proved true for me too. Deckers (Hoka) narrowed the toe box and now I have blisters on the outside of my second toe routinely (which is shorter than big toe. OUCH! Most of all what hurts is the ankles. The cushioning is gone causing the shoe to bang into the ankles. This can only be tolerated for about 4 or 5 miles. Overall, the redesign of these is poor.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

As a big runner (6'2, 195lbs) I have been on a mission to find the most cushioned running shoe that is also not too heavy. I have tried Brooks Glycerin, Nike Pegasis, Asics Nimbus 14 & 15, etc... This Hoka Bondi 3 is the best cushioned shoe yet! I can run farther than ever and have no pain during and after. Here is my pros & cons list:

                          Pros:
                          1) Cushioning like none other. Wow!
                          2) Lighter than they look
                          3) These shoes save my knees and legs

                          Cons:
                          1) Yes, they look a little unusual, but not as bad as I thought
                          2) The tongue could be more comfortable
                          3) Durability is a concern

These would be the worlds perfect neutral running shoe if they made it 1 oz lighter, used a more comfortable tongue, and increased durability. The amazing cushioning and the fact that my body is no longer in pain after a run makes these shoes a solid 4 Star shoe.

I knew this shoe was going to be soft and cushy but it was too soft causing my toes to squish together and not splay this caused bleeding. I don't like bleeding. That's not all...Before I ran into the bleeding feet issue these shoe were wearing out at a crazy rate. I run 30+ miles per week and they looked like I took a belt sander to the fore foot/midfoot after 60 miles. For the money that should not be. I think I would have need 5-7 pairs to get through a season had these worked out. I really wanted to like this shoe, but it was a major bust.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I loved the Bondi 2. The 3 comes with race laces that I had to cut to get the shoe on my foot. The optional laces supplied are about 3 inches longer than the Bondi 2's and flop around annoyingly when running. so I need a trip to get properly sized laces. Over the tongue is a tight elastic strip that makes the shoe hard to get on. That will be sissored out later. I have never heard a fellow runner or triathlete opine for a cushioned trainer to come with race laces and tight rubber bands. As to the tongue, it is not cushioned, rather it seems like a too long piece of flexible plastic that borderline rubs the shin. The shoe is also a tad more narrow and not as comfortable. It is not a fun shoe to run in. My guess is Hoka sent in a high powered design team to do an innovative upper and a day in day out runner never took this thing out for a long run or even tried it on. Give the design back to the Bondi 2 team.

Compared to the Bondi 2, these are more stiff. They caused blisters. They rubbed across the top of my feet. They are lose around the heel and slid up and down, even after returning them for a smaller size. I was so happy with the Bondi 2 shoes that I said I would never wear anything else. I am now returning these and possibly going back to Brooks.

As a "neutral/performance" shoe wearer, this felt like A LOT of shoe. However, to my surprise the first few runs (including a 20 miler) made my feet and legs feel great, like I was being "propelled". I was worried about the "cushy" feel, but it was especially helpful for the long distance. I look forward to seeing how this shoe performs over time. And yeah, they are funny looking...

However, bottoms wear out quickly. Have to apply a protective film to keep treads, which are unlike conventional running shoes, from wearing off within two weeks of light jogging.

I purchased this shoe for superior cushioning and the potential of joint relief from the pounding that 40+ miles running per week can cause. They are by far the most cushioned shoes I have ever ran in. Unfortunately, when wearing them I developed foot pain around my fifth metatarsal plantar (bottom of foot)side. It only occurred on my right foot and thinking it might have just been a bad pair,I tried another with the same result. I also tried the Conquest and felt the same thing.
Miss the cushioning but not worth the pain they caused and returned same. Back to running in the Nike Vomero 8s.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

The newly designed Bondi 3 has the tongue attached in such a way that the thick seam that is formed is right where the top of the toes or top of the metatarsal heads are and creates a severe blister and/or abrasion catalyst. I have run through three pair of Hokas in the past couple of years and really loved them. This new design is very disappointing. I will exchange them for a different Hoka model in the hopes that the tongue design is better. If it is not, I will regrettably have to look for another highly cushioned near-zero drop high mileage trainer.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

Bought these to replace a set of Bondi 2's I'd gotten last Fall. Am in my late 50's with over 35 years and a lot of miles on my old, aching joints from running and cycling, and the 2's were an attempt to "keep running" as Hoka say. Don't do a lot of miles these days, but do get out for 5-10K (100% road) about 3-4 days a week to supplement cycling and try to offset long hours at a desk. My previous go-to shoe had been Saucony's Kinvara, which I really liked a lot. But the pavement pounding was getting too much for my old bones, so I was looking for kind of a therapeutic shoe, offering max cushion but with a similar heel drop. The 2's were a revelation in how they would let me run pain free; like doing 10K's on back to back days without limping, which has been the norm for a while. Just loved the darned things, and sold quite a few pair by word of mouth. No one was disappointed.

The 3's are a little bit of a letdown so far to be honest. They're similar as you'd expect, but the changes are not for the better in my case. The midsole and ride feels a bit firmer, which may suit some, but I notice more joint soreness after my runs than in the 2's when they were fresh. But that's a subtle difference; the main issue I have with the 3's is the new upper, which just feels loose and sloppy to me even though the length is right. They were better once I put the standard laces back in, but the split for the lacing on the 3's is much narrower (the upper comes up higher on each side), meaning the laces can't snug your foot down in place as well as in the 2's. A friend who I'd recommended the Bondi's to before I bought the 3's noticed the same and ended up going with Stinson Tarmacs, (which I haven't tried).

I'd also hoped the "high abrasion" rubber in the wear points would have been improved for road running as well, but some of the hexagonal outsole lugs have already evaporated - with less than 60 miles on the shoes. So be aware that while the midsole may hold up longer than thinner shoes, the outsole on these wears very fast on pavement. That said, as with the 2's I'm getting more even wear across the sole than any previous shoe I've ever had. I'm an underpronating mid-forefoot striker and have always ground off my outsoles around my outer metatarsal joint, but the Hoka's wear evenly, straight across, a bit more in the center.

Bottom line is that after my experience with the 2's, I didn't consider any other shoe. Now I think I may well be looking at something different when these are done. If the upper works for you then the cushioning is great, but be prepared to replace them relatively often.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I was excited to try a new shoe with more cushion. The reviews and the personal contacts suggested the Hoka would be my next shoe. The package arrived and the style and colors were striking. Then, I put the shoe on and found the fit was off, you just know it when you slip on the shoe.

The races laces made it difficult to cinch up the shoe. I considered removing these and putting on the regular laces in the box but decided against. I slipped on both shoes and made my way out to get an overall feel. It usually just takes a 1/4 mile to get the feel. Unfortunately the out and back suggested other issues that I had to pause and reconsider.

In addition to the width concerns I now had cushion concerns around the ankle. As a point of comparison I generally run in Asics. Most recently I have been running in the Cumulus and found the shoe to be quite comfortable in all aspects. The Hoka is most likely a great one for certain runners but not this one.

Bottom line, if you have a wider foot this could be the shoe for you. Size 1/2 up and you should be good to go.

Comments about Mens Hoka One One Bondi 3 Running Shoe:

I purchased these shoes in search of great cushioning--which they have. Unfortunately, the midsole lacks flexibility and after a short run, I developed shin splints. I attempted to run in them several times, but the result was the same. The midsole is too thick resulting in poor flexibility. These shoes are the polar opposite of the current minimalist shoe trend.

Also, the quick lacing system results in a constant loose feel. Fortunately, the shoe comes with regular laces for replacement.
